Hi, I’m Xenia, the founder, creator and intuitive practitioner behind Dark Thread Design.
In ancient tradition, Xenia is the spirit and goddess of sacred hospitality, the art of welcoming guests, opening doors and making a space feel safe, warm and inviting. That is precisely what this space is meant to be: an open door for you to step through, explore and feel at home with yourself.
Whether you stumbled here looking for handmade intention jewellery, ritual simmer pots, or simply a quiet corner of the internet that feels a little more grounded, I welcome you. I’m so glad our paths crossed.
My roots: Born from ancient forests and whispering waters
Long before Dark Thread Design was a brand, it was a lived, ancestral experience.
I come from Udmurtia, a land of dense sacred forests, winding rivers and deep-rooted folk traditions. I proudly descend from a lineage of strong shaman women, healers, dreamers and keepers of the old ways who understood that nature and spirit are intimately intertwined.
In Udmurt tradition:
- The Kuala (Home): A sacred space where family spirits reside and offer protection.
- The Lud (Forest): The wild temple where we honour the spirits of the earth and the land.
Growing up with these teachings taught me that hospitality isn't just about opening your home, it’s about honouring the connection between the inner spirit and the world around us. The sacred isn't something far away, it lives right here in our everyday environment.
Modern magic for everyday life
Fast forward to today: I’m a Melbourne-based mum of three, navigating the beautiful chaos of family life, school runs and quiet coffee moments (if I'm in luck).
While my ancestral practice relied on deep forest sanctuaries and fires, my modern practice looks a bit different:
- Candles instead of roaring bonfires.
- My back garden instead of ancient sacred groves.
- Intention and written words as my chants.
As a lucid dreamer, I often explore the shadow world, a space of deep truth, introspection and spiritual guidance. Dark Thread Design was born out of a desire to bring those quiet, sacred insights out of the shadow space and offer them to you as tangible, physical tools you can wear, hold and use daily.
Crafting adornment as sacred hospitality
Dark Thread Design originally started because I couldn't find high-quality alternative jewellery that felt intentional. I wanted pieces that reflected dark aesthetic sensibilities without sacrificing craftsmanship or spiritual depth.
Today, every creation in this shop is crafted slowly and with deliberate, welcoming energy:
- Intention Jewellery: Hand-assembled using natural crystals, durable chains and symbolic motifs designed to act as anchors for your personal journey.
- Simmer Pot Blends: Carefully chosen herbs, spices and botanicals that extend a warm, aromatic welcome to your living space through the simple ritual of boiling water and steam.
- Ritual-Inspired Pieces: Tools created to encourage daily reflection, self-discovery and grounding.
An invitation to look inward
Adornment isn't just about fashion, it’s a form of daily ritual. True hospitality starts within: how you treat yourself, nourish your spirit and welcome your own truth.
My goal with Dark Thread Design is to invite you to:
- Pause in the middle of the daily noise.
- Turn your attention inward with kindness.
- Discover the magic, strength and intuition already waiting inside you.
You don't need a formal altar or complex rituals to practice magic, sometimes, it’s as simple as putting on a favourite necklace, lighting a candle, or letting a fragrant simmer pot clear the energy of your room.
Thank you for being here, supporting small-batch handmade craft, and letting me welcome you into my practice.
Blessed be,
Xenia
